Views

A view is a saved set of transaction filters with a name — plus the column layout and sort you want for that register. Open a view to see a filtered transaction register with your chosen columns, one click from the left navigation when the view is pinned.

A view stores three things:

  1. Filters — which rows appear. Common filters (search, account, date, amount, category, tag, payee, cleared) plus advanced ones (source, date added, transfers, bank sync import, and more).
  2. Columns — which fields appear and their left-to-right order (set in Choose columns).
  3. Sort — the column and direction rows are ordered by.

Use views when you want a register you return to often, such as:

  • A single account with running balance and reconcile actions
  • Uncategorized transactions for the current month
  • Large purchases above a threshold
  • Bank sync imports from the last 30 days

Where views appear

Under Transactions in the left navigation:

Pinned view namesOpen that view’s register directly (indented under Views)

Unpinned views are available from the register’s view picker but do not appear in the left navigation.

Account views

When you create an account, Big Picture Money automatically creates a pinned view named after that account. The view filters to that account’s transactions and behaves like an account register (running balance, Reconcile, Import).

Rename or extend the view like any other — for example, add an Uncleared only filter while keeping the same name in navigation.

When you archive an account, its view is unpinned from navigation. You can still find it on the Views page.

Views vs Spending filters

Both Spending and Transactions use the same underlying transaction data. Matching date, account, tag, payee, and category filters should show the same rows. Spending also excludes income, transfers, and credit card payments from spending totals.
