Software support policy
This policy describes how Big Picture Money editions, updates, and Connected Services work over time — and how to get help when you need it.
Your license never expires
You may continue using the yearly edition you purchased for as long as you like. Upgrading to a newer edition is optional.
Updates within your edition year
Bug fixes, improvements, and new features are released for your licensed edition year. For example, a 2026 license includes every update shipped for the 2026 edition.
New yearly editions
New editions (2027, 2028, …) introduce larger features and are available as optional paid upgrades. You are never required to upgrade to keep using the version you own.
Database compatibility
| Direction | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Newer app, older data file | Opens and migrates automatically |
| Older app, newer data file | Refused with a message to upgrade the app. Downgrading is not supported. |
Example: A data file created with Big Picture Money 2027 cannot be opened by a 2026 app, even if you still have a 2026 license.
Connected Services edition support
Connected Services features (Plaid sync, cloud backup, multi-device sync, managed AI, mobile companion) — when available — are supported only for the current edition (N) and the immediately previous edition (N-1).
After a new yearly edition ships, older app versions eventually age out of Connected Services support. Big Picture Money and all local data continue to work without Connected Services.
90-day edition bump
If you purchase Big Picture Money within 90 days before a new yearly edition ships, you receive the new edition at fulfillment at no extra charge.
Example: You buy on December 10; the 2027 edition ships January 5 — you receive the 2027 edition.
Security updates
Security updates are provided for supported yearly editions. Critical fixes may occasionally be backported to older editions at Big Picture Money's discretion.
Contact support
Prefer the in-app Help menu when something is wrong or you have an idea. That path includes version diagnostics and a reference id for follow-up.
