Terms of Use
Please read these terms before using Big Picture Money software, services, or this website.
Agreement
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Big Picture Money software, optional connected services, and this website (collectively, the "Service"). By downloading, installing, purchasing, or using Big Picture Money, or by using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms are separate from, and in addition to, any software license or purchase terms presented at checkout. If there is a conflict between these Terms and purchase-specific terms for a paid product, the purchase-specific terms control for that transaction.
What Big Picture Money is
Big Picture Money is personal finance software that helps you record, organize, categorize, budget, and report on your own financial information. The desktop application is designed to be local-first: your financial records are stored in a database file on your computer that you control.
Optional cloud-connected features — such as institution sync, multi-device database sync, hosted backups, and managed AI — may require an account and are described on the pricing page and in the documentation.
License and permitted use
Subject to these Terms and any applicable purchase or license terms, Big Picture Money grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the software for your personal or internal household or business purposes, as permitted by your edition and activation status.
You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the software, except where applicable law expressly permits it.
- Circumvent license validation, activation limits, or technical access controls.
- Resell, sublicense, rent, or redistribute the software except where expressly allowed by your license.
- Use the Service to build a competing product or to scrape, harvest, or misuse data you do not have the right to access.
- Use the Service in violation of applicable law or third-party terms.
Accounts, purchases, and subscriptions
Some features require creating an account or completing a purchase. You are responsible for providing accurate information and for keeping your account credentials secure.
Prices, billing intervals, refund policies, and device or activation limits are described at the time of purchase and on the pricing page. We may change prices or offerings for future purchases; changes do not retroactively alter completed purchases except as required by law or stated purchase terms.
Money-back guarantee
Every purchase of Big Picture Money software, Connected Services, and future product add-ons includes a 60-day money-back guarantee. If it is not right for you, email [email protected] within 60 days of purchase and we will help with a refund. Refunds are processed manually after we confirm your purchase.
There is no free trial — the desktop app requires a valid license. The money-back guarantee is how you can evaluate the software with confidence after purchase.
Connected or hosted services that renew on a subscription basis continue only while payment is current and the subscription remains active. If a subscription ends, features that depend on that subscription may stop working, but your local data file remains yours.
Third-party services
Big Picture Money may integrate with services you choose to enable, including financial data aggregators, AI providers, payment processors, and operating-system secure storage. Those services are provided by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies.
You are responsible for complying with third-party terms and for any fees charged by third parties — for example, a SimpleFIN subscription you bring yourself, or usage charges from a cloud AI provider you configure. Big Picture Money is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of third-party services.
Your data and responsibilities
You retain ownership of the financial information you enter or import into Big Picture Money. Because the software is local-first, you are responsible for safeguarding your computer, passphrase, backups, and exported copies of your data.
Big Picture Money is not a backup service unless you explicitly enable a hosted backup feature included in your plan. Loss of a device, passphrase, or local database file may result in permanent loss of access to encrypted data. See our privacy approach and security documentation for more detail.
You are solely responsible for the accuracy of data you import, categorize, or report on, and for how you use that information in your own financial decisions.
Not financial, tax, investment, or legal advice
Big Picture Money is software tooling, not a financial advisor, accountant, tax preparer, attorney, or broker. The Service does not provide personalized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice.
Reports, budgets, categorizations, AI suggestions, and other outputs are provided for informational and organizational purposes only. They may be incomplete or incorrect. You should consult qualified professionals before making financial, tax, or legal decisions.
AI features
AI-assisted features are optional. If enabled, they may send portions of your data to the provider you configure. AI output can be inaccurate, inconsistent, or inappropriate for your situation. Review AI suggestions before relying on them, especially for categorization, merchant naming, or rule creation.
AI features must not be used as a substitute for professional advice or for decisions that require human judgment, regulatory compliance, or audit-ready accuracy.
Website use
You may use this website for lawful purposes related to learning about, purchasing, or obtaining support for Big Picture Money. You may not attempt to disrupt the website, probe systems without authorization, or use the website to distribute malware or misleading content.
Documentation, blog posts, pricing information, and marketing materials on this website are provided for general information. Features and availability may change before or after launch.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components, or that financial institution connections, imports, balances, or reports will be accurate or complete.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Big Picture Money and its contributors, officers, employees, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business interruption, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to Big Picture Money for the Service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) fifty U.S. dollars (US$50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limitations. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Big Picture Money and its contributors, officers, employees, and affiliates from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to hosted services or this website if you materially breach these Terms or if necessary to protect the Service, other users, or third parties.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnification — will survive.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
General
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where Big Picture Money is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
For questions about these Terms, contact us through the support channels listed in the documentation.
